Today I authored my first actual DVD that can be played in a normal DVD player. Attempts On Her Life is probably going to have a considerable amount of video projection, and I’m angling to use DVDs for ease of cueing, not to mention quality.
So today I processed a few clips into MPEG2 files in Premiere and stuck a project together in MyDVD. It’s a fairly straightforward interface, a little ungainly when working with menus (which look very ugly in the final product) but easy enough to create something workable. The test was a success: I figure that if my PS2 will play it, anything can.
I went to see the devised show that was on in the New Theatre last week, and I didn’t really feel like I was able to write anything about it. But that’s bad, so I’m making myself use a semiotic questionnaire created by Patrice Pavis in 1983 to try and stumble my way towards an understanding of the piece.
We’re off to see Blush in Sheffield tomorrow, and perhaps I’ll have to use something of the same approach if it’s anything like as unintelligable.
And I’m heading up to Edinburgh at the weekend, where I should get to play in two different Imp shows.
As well as being Groundhog Day today was also ex-Flatmate Frank’s birthday: many happy returns and muchos de tequila.
