Life here sure is different to Edinburgh. If I’d been out for a night on the tiles up there then we wouldn’t be out of the pub for another hour – yet here I got back and I’ve spent an hour fine-tuning my essay.
Tonight the Swithen Massive went out for a Christmas meal. We went to a nice pub/restaurant thing, with excellent service and a great steak for me. I haven’t had steak in a long, long time, and a drop of port helped it along.
One of our number is leaving us for pastures new/better, and he’ll be sorely missed. It got emotional.
The evening for half of us was rounded off with some fantastic karaoke, while others went on to dance the night away in glittering Wakefield.
Now my essay’s finished – perhaps a little rough around the edges – and all that remains is to dash to the library early tomorrow to print out a nicer copy than my ancient Laserwriter 300 (wow – it must be ten years old!) can manage and get it handed in before 9am. I’ll be using PC’s so nothing’s taken for granted…
So I can relax for the first time in two weeks, which will be strange.
It also seems that having the campus dominated by a building site has certainly paid off: today we got to look ’round the New Theatre and it’s extremely nice. It’ll obviously need the edges rounding off, and we get to be the guinea pigs in that respect – it probably won’t be officially opened until next September, ready for new first years who’ll get to use it for all three years. Still, there’s something special about being in the first wave: I doubt the overwhelming stench of ‘newness’ will last too long.
