I’m watching Jasper Carrot on The Frank Skinner Show and it strikes me just how well the lighting and set work to make the people on it seem so vibrant and alive: there’s a glowing blue back wall that makes those in front of it jump out without seeming at all orangey. Good stuff.
Today’s film was Stagecoach, which I hadn’t seen before. Quite lovely old-school stuff with a terrific cast and only one real action sequence. For much of the ninety-five minutes they’re not even on the coach, with the last twenty spent in quite a tense standoff that’s suddenly resolved almost entirely off camera. They just can’t make ‘em like that any more.
Now we flick to Channel 4′s update on David Blaine’s London schenanegans, and I’m suddenly reminded of one of my very first entries. Of course he was in there for a couple of months and I only started this sometime in October, but it’s been quite a long term.
In a moment it’s back to BBC1 for the start of Christmas regular Scrooged: classic Bill Murray mugging and Danny Elfman music.
Tomorrow – a visit to the dentist, some observations about fire and an attempt to finish present-shopping before Christmas Eve!
