Because I'm A Dentist

Wednesday, 24 December, 2003 — filed under: film / news / tv

The dentist that I’ve been going to for much of my life retired sometime last year, and his replacement is much keener on techniques that are certainly doing a much more thorough job whilst also being a lot more painful. I was never one of those kids (possibly just stereotypes) that was nervous of the dentist because I’ve never had anything done to my teeth, and I suppose I’m going to have to take this new level of preventitive treatment with gritted teeth.

Today’s films: The Bone Collector, Donnie Darko, The Insider.

Bone Collector is sitting on a tape to be watched tomorrow or sometime. My parents wanted to see Donnie Darko after I’d sung its praises and the recent Christmas-number-1′ing of its soundtrack, but their VCR didn’t agree with the rental copy so that was scratched. I’m watching The Insider now and although I’ve listened to the soundtrack plenty of times I only saw it once a few years ago. It’s a great big slumbering cat of a film that takes its own time and makes every frame count and glisten: the music especially gets added umph when it swirls hugely around the cinematography, even though it seems I’ve been carrying around slightly incorrect recollections of where it fits into the movie.

I’ve tinkered a little with the Category and Date indexes – they now only carry the first paragraph of each entry along with a [continued] link.
