Programmer's Progress

The bulk of this entry is going slap-bang into the main body to try and pad out the index page to a more realistic length, purely for purposes of testing as I wrangle my stylesheet into an agreement with the Movable Type one.

What happened today? We had a lecture on Sound Design, then we went looking for a pub lit by gaslight. We found the place, in a little village called Heath, but the door almost literally shut in our faces. So we went to somewhere in Wakefield instead and played a little pool.

The buses which run to Bretton Hall currently aren’t: they drop us off in Bretton to avoid some rather pointless roadworks on the lane that runs down to the Hall and the Sculpture Park. Still, it’s good exercise.

So back here for dinner, and I’ve spent the last hour squishing bits of CSS together. The proceedure is a little long-winded: edit CSS and index templates, upload via FTP, rebuild weblog, force IE to reload its idea of the CSS, reload weblog. Repeat as required.

But it’s getting there. The main problem is working out how nice I can make the weblog look without it ‘treading on the toes’ of the main site’s CSS. Now that most of notlikecalvin.com has been resculpted I’m a tad reluctant to go back and alter chunks for the sake of the weblog. We shall see how it goes.
