The Penny Dreadfuls are responsible for the Empire's foremost Victorian sketch comedy show, Aeneas Faversham. Full of dark wit and ridiculous melodrama, Faversham delves into 19th century quirks and oddities to rich comic effect.
After a glorious run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2006, we've been touring Faversham around the country over the last year, including runs at the Glasgow and Leicester Comedy Festivals.
Perhaps unlike many sketch shows, Faversham relies a great deal on theatrical staging and presentation. Scenes often have more in common with tiny comic playlets than traditional sketches, and both lighting and sound contribute greatly to the atmosphere of a show.
