This was a very exciting project - the UK premiere of a really, erm, edgey piece of contemporary theatre. I'd worked with Nutshell previously as ALD, and with director Kate Nelson in Suffolk, and this production came together remarkably fluidly right from the start.

The play is a series of three monologues, the characters' tales interwoven. It's quite a challenge to present them theatrically - the dialogue is strangely unreal and quite dense: lighting the show became an exercise in restraint, to provide an extra layer of relationship between the three stories without trampling on the audience experience during them.

The Circle Studio at the Citz was a wonderfully immersive environment for the show, and it was very interesting to recreate it for the new end-on configuration of the Traverse 2 in Edinburgh.
